As I prepare for this year’s Froggwell Biennale, I’m starting to talk to all the participating artists for the show. I’ve asked them for news of what they have been working on as well as pictures of their current work.
Among our returning artists are Buffy Cribbs, Gail Gwinn, Bruce Morrow, Briony Morrow Cribbs, Anne Belov, Teresa Saia, Sue Taves, and Sharon Spencer. We also have some guest artists participating. So far this year, Linanne Armstrong, who will be showing her wood and linoleum block prints, Marianne Brabanski, with paintings and prints, and Al Tennant, with wood-fired ceramic sculptures. word has come (yes, this very minute) that Suzanne Schlicke of Dog Eared Books will return with her beautiful hand-bound books. I know that I draw better in her books than I do in some boring old, off the rack sketch book, and I bet you would too.
Sharon Spencer’s work is elegant and mysterious. She works in bronze, stone and mixed media sculpture. Much of her current work is made from paper and natural materials. It asked to be touched, as the physical as well as the visual textures are hard to resist.
With sculpture, setting has so much to do with how a piece is seen and perceived, and those who have been lucky enough to see Sharon’s work at Froggwell, know that fact well. (Not to belabor the point, of course!)
I’ll be posting more work of the Artists of Froggwell in the coming weeks, so do check back in!
And if you haven’t checked out anne Belov’s Kickstarter project yet, you have about 5 more days to do so! see it at
